Description
14 Spilman Street is an end-terrace house dating from the 19th century, finished in painted roughcast with a hipped slate roof. It appears to have been designed as a pair with No 12. The house is two stories tall and features a three-window range, with two brick stacks located on the rear roof slopes. It has a raised plinth and a central entrance with a five-panel door that includes a plate-glass overlight, framed by a timber door-case with plain pilasters, scroll brackets, and a flat cornice. The windows are large horned sashes with marginally-glazed plate-glass, set in raised moulded stucco frames with painted stone sills. The eaves board is plain, and there are cast iron rainwater goods. The west end wall has one window located on the ground floor to the right.
The house has undergone alterations, particularly when it was connected to Number 15. An earlier 19th-century staircase with straight balusters, noted in 1981, has been removed.
