Description
15 Spilman Street is a townhouse located in an informal terrace, featuring painted stucco with a raised painted stucco plinth, a close-eaved slate roof, and red brick end stacks. The building is three stories high and has a slightly offset three-window range. The main floors have hornless 12-pane sash windows, while the top floor has 9-pane sash windows. The central entrance includes a six-panel door, with the top two panels being glazed, and a rectangular plate-glass overlight set within a large doorcase that has been renewed since 1981. Originally, the doorcase featured panelled pilasters and a cornice on consoles, but it has since been updated to include pilasters and plain consoles with a timber flat hood. The building has unpainted slate sills and cast iron rainwater goods.
Inside, there is an 18th-century staircase with turned balusters that was mentioned in 1981, although it was replaced during extensive renovations in the late 20th century. The original staircase was said to have been a 19th-century stick baluster stair. Some six-panel doors have been retained, including one fielded-panelled door and two with sunk panels on the ground floor, though they may not be in their original locations. There is also a half-glazed inner hall door.
