Description
8 Quay Street is a terraced house that forms a mirrored pair with No 7. It features painted stucco and a steep slate roof with a modillion eaves cornice and a red brick stack on the right side. The building has three storeys, an attic, and a cellar, with a three-window range where the inner bay is closely paired with the inner bay of No 7. There are three roof lights and twelve-pane sash windows on the upper floors, with the second-floor windows being shorter.
On the ground floor, there is a doorway to the left and a single twelve-pane sash window in the centre, along with a barred cellar opening in the plinth between the doorway and the window. The fine timber doorcase features an open pediment, a fluted impost band, fluted consoles, and panelled pilasters. A broad centre pilaster is shared with the doorcase of No 7, and there is a thin outer pilaster to the right. The entrance has two steps leading up to an 8-panel door with fielded panels and a fanlight with radiating bars.
Inside, there is a later 18th-century staircase that matches that of No 7, featuring turned newels and three turned balusters on each tread, all of a column on vase type. The staircase has open scrolled treads and moulded ramped rails, with the balusters boarded over. It has five flights leading to the attic. The interior also includes six-panel doors with sunk panels.
