Description
Cartref is a terraced house that stands prominently in front of No. 10 and is paired with No. 12. It features painted stucco with a slate gabled roof and a tall stuccoed chimney stack on the left. Originally, it was two storeys high and had a three-window range similar to No. 12, but a later addition added a third storey, which altered the upper floor to have two windows. The house also has a cellar. The added top storey includes a 16-pane sash window on the far right, and the wall is slightly set back from the original eaves to align with No. 12.
The main front displays twelve-pane sashes in plain raised surrounds: on the first floor, there is one window to the left of centre (aligned between the two ground floor sashes) and one on the far right above the doorway. The ground floor has two sash windows (which have been restored since 1981) above two small cellar windows, with a door to the right that is paired with No. 12. There are two steps leading up to a fielded-panelled six-panel door within a doorcase that has plain pilasters and a moulded flat hood supported by shaped brackets. The original eaves have been replaced with a 20th-century board, and there is a narrow line of slates above. The ground and first floor windows have plain stucco surrounds.
The left gable end features a large 12-pane sash window in the attic storey and a similar window on the first floor, both with plain stucco surrounds. The rear of the house has a 12-pane sash window on the first, second, and attic floors on the right side, with the attic window situated under a catslide. The ground floor center has a door and a 12-pane sash window, with an 8-pane window above. The right side includes two 12-pane sashes at intermediate levels and a small sash under the eaves with 20 very small panes. All sash windows have been renewed.
Inside, there is a staircase featuring thin turned balusters and small square newels.
