Description

26 Quay Street is a terraced house built in the late 18th century, featuring painted stucco and a slate roof with close eaves and brick end stacks. The facade is taller than the adjacent houses at numbers 25 and 27 and is set back slightly from number 27. It has a tall three-storey front with a full-height cellar and a three-window range that is offset to the right. The windows are twelve-pane sashes, with the top floor having smaller windows and no central window.

The ground floor doorway is located to the right and is raised significantly above the pavement level, accessed by steps with iron railings. These railings were originally similar to those outside number 10 but were replaced with a near replica in the late 20th century. The doorway leads to an original fielded-panelled door with eight panels, situated in a late 20th-century stuccoed open-fronted porch with a pitched slate roof. In 1981, there was no porch, but an architrave frame with a flat canopy similar to that of number 3 was present. To the left, downhill, there is a boarded door to the cellar in the left bay. A thin sill band runs along the first floor.

Inside, there is a late 18th-century closed string staircase featuring column newels, a moulded rail, and column balusters, arranged in four flights. All the panelled doors have been replaced.
