Description
The service yard and gateway of Middleton Hall date back to a significant period and are arranged along a single axis with the stable block. The yard is an oval enclosure made of roughly coursed stonework, standing about 2 metres high, although it is missing its original coping. The gateway is an impressive round-headed design featuring a semicircular ashlar arch, a projecting keystone, large square impost moulding, a string course, and a projecting plinth. This gateway is framed by a section of wall that has been raised to nearly double its height, constructed in coursed masonry with square coping.
