Description

The rear stable block of Middleton Hall is a two-storey building featuring ten windows and a central wide archway aligned with the older stable block. It is constructed from uncoursed rubble sandstone masonry, with ashlar detailing around the central archway and the ground-floor openings. The roof is hipped and covered with slate, featuring a tile ridge and two mid-chimneys, which are likely from the 20th century.

The yard-facing elevation is irregular but maintains symmetry across its two halves. The joinery has been extensively restored. Above the central archway, there are two 12-pane sash windows. On either side, moving from the center to the ends, there is a four-pane casement, a 16-pane sash window, and two circular windows with radial glazing bars. Below these, there is a four-pane casement window and a 16-pane sash window aligned with those above, along with a horizontal window of ten panes, a doorway, and another four-pane casement. The doorway on the right has been widened.

The rear elevation also features ten windows. Here, the original windows have cambered arches supported by large impost stones. The upper windows have been restored within their original openings, including four 16-pane sash windows grouped in a domestic style above two doorways, which have two 12-pane sash windows and two smaller central windows under a single arch. The outer sections of this elevation are more utilitarian, with fixed multi-pane lights and four large archways, three of which have been bricked up. Each end elevation includes two circular upper windows. There is a central blocked doorway on the north side and a hipped-roofed lean-to on the south, made of ashlar masonry, featuring corner pilasters, a blocked round-headed doorway with the date 1870 on the keystone, and two small round-headed windows.
