Description
New Bridge is a road bridge made of grey limestone ashlar, built with three broad low elliptical arches that feature cut stone voussoirs. The arches are separated by flat piers that sit over low rounded cutwaters. The bridge has a frieze and a rounded cornice that project forward over the piers, leading to a coped parapet with higher raised piers above the main bridge piers. At each end of the bridge, there is a larger pier that supports a later 19th-century cast-iron lamp standard. Each lamp standard has a circular iron shaft with a cable work pattern near the base and is plain at the top. The standards also feature necking, bracket feet, and globe glass lamp holders with metal framing bands, along with a metal top vent.
