Description

13 Victoria Place is a three-storey terraced house, now used as commercial premises. It dates from the 18th century and is constructed of painted stucco, with a slate mansard roof hidden behind a parapet and a red brick stack at the left end. The two-bay front has giant pilasters framing the narrow right bay, where the right pilaster is shared with the adjacent property at No. 11, and a pilaster to the left, which is part of a pair framing the entrance to No. 15. These pilasters have simple stepped caps and plinths, supporting an entablature with a deep frieze and a simple cornice, broken forwards over the left pier and the narrow right bay. The parapet also projects over the narrow bay and the left-hand pier. The windows are sash windows with narrow marginal panes; they are narrower in the entrance bay and longer on the first floor than above. The main bay on the ground floor has a square, moulded window. It retains a tripartite window, originally of 4-12-4-pane design. To the right is a doorway with a plain fanlight over an original, heavy, two-panel door. The ground floor has been altered, but the original staircase remains, featuring a thin continuous rail, square balusters, and turned newel posts, with plain open tread ends.
