Description
The Tabernacle United Reformed Church, built in 1858 as a Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, features a three-bay classical front. The exterior is finished with coarse plaster on rubble and has a gently pitched slate roof. A pediment with a roundel displays the date 1858, with the numbers set diagonally. The building has a plain frieze and a simple architrave, supported by four Tuscan pilasters, with the outer pilasters set in from the corners. A deep plinth runs along the base.
The outer bays have tall round-arched windows, each with a central mullion and transom divided into six lights with lead cames. These windows have plain architraves and stone sills. Above the central round-arched doorway, which cuts through the plinth, is a similar two-light window with a plain architrave. The doorway features a bisected semicircular fanlight over panelled double doors.
The side elevations are plain with three windows each, reflecting the fenestration style of the front. The south side is slate hung in diminishing courses, with plain eaves. The church is set behind a railed forecourt, with gatepiers offset to the left. Inside, there is a galleried interior.
