Description
Barclay's Bank is an early 20th-century building designed in the Edwardian plain classical style. It is three stories tall with a six-window ashlar front, featuring a channelled ground floor and a stepped plinth. The roof is steeply pitched and covered with slate, adorned with raking gable parapets and deep eaves supported by paired brackets.
The advanced end bays rise above the eaves and are finished with cornices and chamfered corners. The second-floor windows have segmental hoods, plain architraves, and aprons. The first-floor windows are set within recessed panels and have flat hoods with moulded reveals. The building features eight-pane sash windows, with the four central bays recessed between giant order pilasters. A continuous sill band runs beneath the second-floor windows, which are set under the eaves and have cambered heads.
The ground floor has a modern fascia over the windows, which include small paned tilting toplights, concave reveals, and plain continuous sills. Doorways are located in the outer bays and have simply moulded architraves with quarter round reveals. Above the doorheads are rectangular fanlights that feature egg and dart moulding over dentils. The doors are panelled.
