Description
The Coach House at Blackaldern is an early to mid 19th century lofted coach house and stable block. It is constructed from limewashed rubble masonry and features a later slate roof with a moderate pitch and plain close eaves.
On the front, there are two windows set under the eaves, with small panes retained on the left side. To the right, there are two broad segmental arched coach entrances at ground level, which have stone voussoirs and modern doors. In the center, there is a split stable door, flanked by two crossed glazing bar windows with cambered brick headed arches.
The left end elevation has steps leading to a recessed round arched doorway, which is framed by brick voussoirs and has a plank door. To the right gable end, there is a loft door with a dripstone above it. At the rear, there is a continuous outshot that includes a doorway and a small window in each end wall.
