Description
Blackaldern is a small country house built in the early to mid-19th century, featuring two stories and a cellar. It has later 19th-century extensions and additions. The exterior is made of roughcast rubble set on a plinth, topped with a hipped slate roof. The garden front has four bays, with three windows and a five-sided angular bay on the top left that has slate hung on the first floor. The windows are 12-pane sash windows with stone sills and plain reveals. The entrance is located on the right flank of the angular bay, featuring a Tudor arch with a returned label and a recessed, panelled entry. There is one window on the right elevation, and a later 19th-century canted bay on the left end. At the rear, there is a five-window cross range with similar fenestration. A small, lofted outhouse with a stepped chimney is located at the extreme rear, along with a low gabled extension to the right rear that has a tall chimney and small paned windows framing sidelights to the doorway.
Adjoining to the west is a later structure.
Inside, the house features four-panel doors, panelled reveals, and shutters on the windows. There is a contemporary dog leg staircase with a spiral newel, along with later Georgian chimney pieces and cornices.
