Description
Cartlett House is a semi-detached house dating from the 18th century. It is rendered and painted with a sand-textured finish, and has a slate roof with a brick stack on the left end which is shared with the adjacent property at number 33, and a smaller altered brick stack on the right end. The house has two storeys and a three-window front. Stucco quoins are visible, along with window architraves that have keystones and decorative lugs beneath the sills. The windows have been replaced with plate-glass sashes, which are larger on the ground floor. A round-headed doorway is centrally positioned, framed by a doorcase featuring Ionic columns, a frieze, and a pediment with decorative modillions. The door itself is an eight-panel design, with fielded panels and reeded borders, with the top two panels cut away and glazed. A blind fanlight above the door features delicate radiating tracery in a petal form, ornamented with husk details. The front of the property is enclosed by a low, rendered wall with a stone coping. A very short late 19th-century cast-iron rail runs along the wall, fixed to uprights that have star-shaped finials and pierced, ornate brackets on every other upright. A matching cast-iron gate completes the frontage.
