Description

This is a pair of houses dating to around 1800. They are constructed of roughcast and stucco, with slate roofs, and feature a red brick end stack. The houses present a three-storey, three-window facade; No. 26 has a two-window frontage, and No. 26A a single-window frontage. No. 26A was restored around 1990 by B.E. Minter. No. 26 is finished with an unpainted dry-dash exterior, with plain stucco window surrounds, while No. 26A has a painted stucco facade with raised stucco surrounds to the windows and a quoin pilaster to the south-east angle. No. 26 has plate glass sash windows, and No. 26A has small-paned sashes which are replacements, with a six-pane configuration to the upper floor, and twelve-pane configurations to the first and ground floors. No. 26 has a ground floor tripartite sash window to the left of a camber-headed doorway, which has a nine-panel door and overlight. No. 26A has a rear wing, featuring an arched door and an 18-pane stair light above.

Both houses contain early 19th-century dog-leg staircases, characterized by stick balusters and ramped handrails. No. 26 possesses an elliptical arch between the front and rear rooms.
