Description
This is an end-terrace house, built in the 18th century and located on Tower Hill. The front facade is painted stucco with a slate mansard roof and renewed stuccoed end chimneys. The two-bay section facing Tower Hill has a parapet, moulded cornice, and a deep frieze above three plain pilasters with thin capitals. The central and right pilasters have a raised square feature at mid-height, which appears to be a later addition. A raised band runs between the pilasters. The windows are twelve-pane sashes, two on each floor, with a basement window located below the ground-floor window on the left. The front door is a four-panel design with an overlight, positioned to the right of the left window, against the centre pilaster. The frieze and cornice extend to the left of the left pilaster but stop at a taller pilaster at the corner.
The end wall facing Mariners Square is formally designed, with a channelled basement. The stucco is stepped over a small central basement window. Above this are three bays divided by four giant pilasters, the left one curved at the angle to Dark Street. Each pilaster has moulded capitals, with a frieze and cornice broken forward over the pilasters. The windows are plate glass sashes, with narrower windows in the outer bays on each floor. The ground-floor centre has a broader sash, while a plate glass tripartite sash is on the first floor centre—an oriel window is visible in an older photograph. A gable above contains a small centre window.
The rear of the property, facing Dark Street, is roughcast stucco. It now has a 20th-century door and two modern six-pane windows on the ground floor. The first floor has two twelve-pane sashes, a twelve-pane stair window in the centre, and a twelve-pane and an eight-pane window on the upper floor. The corner at the right has channelled, tooled stone at its base. The interior of the property has not been inspected.
