Description

The Royal Playhouse Cinema is a cinema building featuring painted stucco and corrugated asbestos roofs. Its facade consists of a layout with one central bay flanked by three bays on each side, topped with a parapet, cornice, and a central projection that has a moulded pediment with a blank roundel. The center of the facade includes three tall arched recesses, with the middle one being slightly larger and containing a small blind arched panel. This area is framed by four thin pilasters that support three moulded arches. The side bays also have tall arched recesses with blind arched panels and pilaster framing with moulded arches. The central entrance features plain square-headed double doors with an overlight, while the outer bays have single doors. The side walls are roughcast and plain.

The building has undergone significant alterations, but a gently pitched curved fronted balcony remains, adorned with Art Deco motifs on the front. Notably, the proscenium arch with a cornice and fluted pilasters, which was mentioned in 1977, has been removed.
