Description
6 The Norton is a mid-terrace house built as a mirror image of No 5. The front is painted roughcast and features four storeys, a dentil eaves cornice, a slate roof, and a red brick chimney stack on the right. The house has two bays, with square window openings on the third floor and large openings on the first and second floors, all of which have had 20th-century UPVC window replacements since 1977. Originally, there were 12-pane sash windows on the upper two floors and horned sashes on the first floor. To the left, there is a round-headed doorway set in a timber open-pediment doorcase, which has pediments supported by console brackets and a fluted impost band. Above the six-panelled door, which features four raised and fielded panels and two flush panels, is a plain fanlight. To the right, there is a late 19th-century shop front casing with simple pilasters and moulded heavy brackets framing the fascia, and a 20th-century plate glass door that is canted in towards the centre.
