Description
The barometer case is a fine 19th-century Gothic structure made of painted stone, standing about 2 meters high and square in shape. It features a top with carved coping and gablets on three outer sides, along with a deeply moulded cornice. The sides have blind panels, while the front has a recessed and glazed panel that displays a tall barometer chamber, set on a sloping plinth. The wooden barometer is of the mercury type and is inscribed with: "RNLB No 104 Institution. James Glaisher FRS. Negretti & Zambra London," indicating the calibrator and makers. This barometer case is an attractive and unusual item of special interest.
