Description

North Lodge Piers and Gates consist of two square limestone gate pillars designed in a simplified classical style, likely built around 1800 and contemporary with the nearby Summer House. Each pillar measures 1 meter square and stands approximately 3 meters high, with a spacing of about 2.4 meters between them. The pillars feature a deep cornice with an ovolo section moulding underneath and are topped with globe finials, each about 50 centimeters in diameter, which have square girding blocks at mid-height; these globes are identical to those on the Summer House. The gates are made of oak with six bars, two sets of crossbracing, and a cast-iron cresting on the top bar, dating from the late 19th or early 20th century.
