Description

The ice house is a north-facing structure, likely built around 1800. It features a front made of grotesquely weathered limestone blocks in a grotto style. This building was designed to be both an amusing feature in the woodland walk around the gardens and to serve a practical purpose.

It has an arched entrance that leads into a below-ground passage. A low limestone block wall has been added across the entrance after the ice house fell into disuse. The rear of the passage seems to lead to the ice chamber, but this area is completely walled up. The dome of the ice chamber at the back appears to be intact, although the entire structure is heavily overgrown, which was likely intentional.
