Description
The Dairymaid's Quarters, also known as Cawdor Cottage, is a Grade II listed two-storey house located at the southern end of the site of Stackpole Court, adjacent to the brewery group. Designed by architect Henry Ashton in 1843, it is part of a set of buildings constructed around a pre-existing game-larder on a site with two main levels. This building was once a significant part of the service arrangements for Stackpole Court and is now preserved and exhibited by the National Trust.
The house features irregularly coursed ashlar masonry with large quoins and has a string course at the upper window sill level. It has a low pitched slate roof with hipped ends and projecting eaves. A tall double chimney, shared with the adjacent brewery, has two shafts and a steam vent linked by an arch below the cornice level. The west elevation includes an eight-pane sash window at its center.
The Dairymaid's Quarters is listed for its historical interest and for its group value with the other surviving buildings of Stackpole Court.
