Description
Sampson Farmhouse is an 18th-century farmhouse located to the north opposite the junction where the Bosherston road leaves the B4319. The building faces east and is two storeys high, featuring a three-window range with a central door and a modern porch. The windows are 19th-century sash style. The exterior is made of rendered rubble masonry, topped with a slate roof, and has end chimneys. There is a lean-to structure that was formerly used as a dairy to the north.
Inside, the doors are panelled. Centrally located at the rear of the house is a large single-unit wing, also constructed from rendered rubble masonry and with a slate roof, matching the height of the front range. The west side of this wing has a very large end chimney with a deep timber bressummer, featuring corbelled stonework that is significantly blackened. There are two ovens of different sizes present. Additionally, there is a large lean-to extension that may have been used for corn drying or malting.
Beneath the southern room, there is a cellar lined in rough-hewn masonry, accessible by stairs at the rear. The farmhouse is listed for its very fine chimney, which includes bread ovens and a corn dryer.
