Description
The North Lodge features two square limestone gate pillars designed in a simplified classical style, likely built around 1800 and contemporary with the nearby Summer House. Each pillar measures 1 meter square and stands approximately 3 meters high, with a spacing of about 2.4 meters between them. The pillars are topped with a deep cornice that has an ovolo section moulding underneath, and each is crowned with a globe finial, which is about 50 centimeters in diameter and has a square girding block at its mid-height. These globes are identical to those found on the Summer House. The entrance is completed by a six-bar oak gate, which features two sets of crossbracing and a cast-iron cresting on the top bar, dating from the late 19th or early 20th century.
