Description

The Former Bonville's Court Colliery Weighbridge House is a small, single-storey building with a gabled roof, constructed from coursed rubble sandstone and topped with a corrugated roof. It features a central doorway on the north elevation, which has a plank door, flanked by a square window on either side. There is one blocked window opening on the west gable end and another on the rear elevation. In front of the building, the platform for the weighing machine is set into the road. The weighbridge house played a significant role in the context of the Checkweighman's Act of 1860 and subsequent legislation, which mandated that miners elect and pay weighmen, acknowledging their crucial role in recording production for wage settlements. Inside, the weighbridge house housed reading equipment for the weighbridge, along with ledgers for the miners' and the Company's nominated checkweighmen.
