Description
Graystone is a house and shop built from squared stone, featuring some banding in red brick and blue lias, with a slate roof and stone end stacks. The eastern stack is large and has five shafts with vertical incisions between them.
The building is three storeys high and has a three-window range, with a chamfered northwest corner and a southwest rear wing. It has a blue lias capped plinth and pairs of red brick bands between blue lias bands below the sill levels of the upper floors, as well as a blue lias eaves course. The windows are hornless sashes with flush blue lias sills and cambered heads, with six-pane upper windows and twelve-pane windows on the first floor. There is a matching one-window range at the northwest angle.
On the ground floor, there is a central arched doorway with a fine blue lias arched head and a radiating bar fanlight, leading to a two-panel door. There is a similar doorway at the northwest angle, but it lacks the original door and fanlight. Each side of the main door features a shop window; the left window is made of 20th-century plate glass, while the right window is a 19th-century four-light design with thin transoms and ogee pointed heads. The side piers have incised decoration, with brackets above framing the fascia and cornice.
The west end wall has a full-height basement with one broad window and a blocked ground floor window above it. The rear wing includes a stone end stack, a basement door and window, a first floor window, a stair light, and a second floor window, all featuring blue lias stone voussoirs.
