Description
The former Tabernacle Chapel, located behind Nos 18 and 19 High Street, is a building constructed from rubble stone and features a half-hipped corrugated iron roof with flat bracketed eaves. The entrance front seems to have originally been on the rear south side, which has two doors with slightly cambered heads and stone voussoirs. There are also two upper outer windows with timber lintels, although all openings are currently blocked with corrugated iron.
The north facade, facing High Street, is whitewashed and includes a broad arched window at mid-height, made with cut stone voussoirs and a slate sill. Flanking this window are two similar but narrower arched windows, set higher up. The crowns of these arches are slightly cut back to accommodate a continuous timber wall plate, located about one meter below the eaves, suggesting possible rebuilding. The sills of the outer windows have been altered to include inserted doors; the right door features stone voussoirs and appears to be of relatively early date, while the left door is broader, likely from the 20th century, with a brick arch and double doors for workshop access. The interior has not been inspected but is reported to lack any surviving original features.
