Description
Capel Bach is a former chapel constructed from rubble stone, featuring quoins and squared dressings. The building has a corrugated sheet roof and replaced rainwater goods. It has a rectangular plan with a former three-bay entry façade facing Chapel Lane. The central doorway is blocked, while the outer doors are plain braced and ledged boarded doors. The south gable includes a 6-over-3 small pane sash window with narrow glazing bars and horns, and the north gable has a 6-over-2 sash window. There are also a pair of tall small pane sashes in the west wall, which were boarded at the time of inspection, although a 24-pane configuration could be expected.
The left-hand door provides access to a staircase leading to the upper floor in the left corner. The treads and risers have been replaced, featuring a squared timber newel and balusters. There is a panelled partition and door made from reused gallery fronts leading to a room at the rear. The underside of the gallery is visible, supported by squared timber pillars with moulded capitals and beaded arises. The floor is made of flagstones. The blocked central door has been remade as a blind half-height recess. The right-hand door leads to a stable or store room, with the underside of the gallery and details remaining the same as previously described. A corbelled gallery support is visible on the east wall. The upper floor is boarded over and largely emptied of fittings, but it retains a stepped gallery around three sides, some bench supports, blocked windows on the rear wall, and painted plaster detail in between, which shows a pediment with a plaque and urn finial, possibly part of the original pulpit layout.
