Description

10 High Street is an early 19th century cottage situated in the centre of a long, slightly curving terraced row fronting onto a footpath above the High Street. The cottage is constructed of whitewashed rubble with a part-grouted slate roof and truncated rubble end stacks. It is a single-storey, double-fronted building with two small 12-pane sashes set under slate lintels, and a central door. A rear roof collapsed in 1989. A loft light is visible in the west end. A timber lintel is present above one fireplace, and there is evidence of a former loft, which has now been removed. The roof structure features sawn timber trusses. This building is of group value as a rare survivor of the single-storey cottages once typical of the area. It was marked on the 1838 Tithe Map and is currently in a semi-ruinous condition.
