Description

Capel Soar is a chapel built in 1842, with improvements made in 1874 and 1895, although some sources suggest it was completely rebuilt in 1874. The building features unpainted roughcast with stucco dressings and a slate roof, showcasing a Venetian Renaissance style.

The two-storey structure has plain four-window sides, with a front that includes a slightly projecting pedimented centerpiece flanked by half-pediments. This centerpiece is supported by four giant pilasters, and the entablature is broken forward above the inner pilasters to create a depressed central arch. The apex and outer angles are adorned with block finials.

In the center of the pediment, there is a blank roundel, with spandrel panels above the arch and a keystone in the arch. Above the pair of long arched windows on the first floor, there is a glazed roundel. The arched and pedimented doorway below features pilaster jambs, a moulded arch, a keystone, and a slate plaque in the pediment. The pair of windows above the doorway has sill-courses, pilaster jambs, moulded arches, and keystones.

The side bays contain tall ground floor arched windows with moulded shouldered architraves and keystones, while blank plaques with rebated angles are positioned above these windows, as well as over the spandrels of the center arch, the spandrels of the doorcase, the triangles in the half-pediments, and the apex roundel.

The entrance has double doors with a segmental head and a crescent overlight.
