Description

8 Water Street is a group of simple classical, two-storey buildings featuring scribed render fronts, except for No 12, which has a pebbledash finish. The buildings have rusticated quoins, end pilaster strips, cill bands, and plinths. The front of Nos 8, 9, and 10 is asymmetrical, with No 8 having two sets of two windows, while Nos 9 and 10 have two sets of two and one window respectively. Nos 11 to 14 have three-window fronts. The roofs are slate with wide boarded eaves and there are eight cement render chimney stacks.

Nos 10, 12, and 13 have 12-pane sash windows, while Nos 9, 11, and 14 feature 4-pane sashes. No 8 has various sash windows, including a splayed bay window to the right, and a later 2-pane sash on the ground floor of No 10. All windows, except for Nos 8, 9, and 10, have lugged architraves and ornamental keystones. No 13 has voussoir lintels instead of keystones. The buildings have arched entrances with keystones, except for No 13, and panelled architraves on Nos 8, 11, 12, and 14.

The doors are recessed and vary in design: No 8 has a panelled door with an intersecting ribbed fanlight; No 9 features a half-glazed door with a 6-pane fanlight; No 10 has a 4-panel door with a 5-pane fanlight; No 11 has a 3-panel door with a 7-pane fanlight; No 12 has a boarded door with a 2-pane fanlight; and No 13 has an 8-panel door with a 5-pane fanlight and scribed reveals. No 14 has a 6-panel door with a 5-pane fanlight. Additionally, there is a further 4-panel door with a fanlight to the right of the bay window at No 8, and beyond that, a boarded door with a panelled architrave and ornamental keystone. There is also an irregularly curved arch leading to the lane on the right.
