Description
14 Water Street is a group of simple classical buildings from the 19th century, featuring two-storey fronts with scribed render, except for No 12, which is finished in pebbledash. The buildings have rusticated quoins, end pilaster strips, cill bands, and plinths. The front of Nos 8, 9, and 10 is asymmetrical, with No 8 having two plus two windows, and Nos 9 and 10 having two plus one windows each. Nos 11 to 14 have three-window fronts. The roofs are slate with wide boarded eaves, and there are eight cement render chimney stacks.
The windows vary, with 12-pane sash windows in Nos 10, 12, and 13, while Nos 9, 11, and 14 feature 4-pane sashes. No 8 has various sash windows, including a splayed bay window on the right, and No 10 has a later 2-pane sash on the ground floor. Most windows have lugged architraves and ornamental keystones, except for Nos 8, 9, and 10, which lack keystones, and No 13, which has voussoir lintels. The entrances are arched with keystones, except for No 13, and Nos 8, 11, 12, and 14 have panelled architraves.
The doors are recessed and vary in design: No 8 has a panelled door with an intersecting ribbed fanlight; No 9 has a half-glazed door with a 6-pane fanlight; No 10 features a 4-panel door with a 5-pane fanlight; No 11 has a 3-panel door with a 7-pane fanlight; No 12 has a boarded door with a 2-pane fanlight; and No 13 has an 8-panel door with a 5-pane fanlight and scribed reveals. No 14 has a 6-panel door with a 5-pane fanlight. Additionally, there is a further 4-panel door with a fanlight to the right of the bay window at No 8, and beyond it, a boarded door with a panelled architrave and ornamental keystone. An irregularly curved arch leads to a lane on the right.
