Description
The gates and gatepiers to the Alltyrodyn driveway, located at South Lodge, consist of a small lodge that adjoins the driveway, along with attached walls, gates, and gatepiers. This structure is a square-plan house built from rubble, which was formerly stuccoed, and features a low-pitched pyramid roof with a diagonally-set stone chimney stack. It is a single-storey, symmetrical building with one-window fronts that exhibit Tudor Gothic details. The front of the lodge has a ledged door with wrought iron strap hinges, a cambered head made of cut stone voussoirs, and a moulded hoodmould. The side facing the driveway has a central pair of narrow casement windows with a hoodmould, while the rear has one window.
At the southeast angle, there is a short length of rubble wall that connects to a blue lias ashlar gate pier topped with an ogee cap and ball finial. There is a matching gate pier on the opposite side, along with spearhead iron gates that include dog bars.
In front of the lodge, between the driveway and the road, there is a small triangular garden featuring rubble retaining walls and dwarf iron railings. The condition of the structure was noted as deteriorating in 1991.
