Gate-Lodge, Glenarch, Gilmerton Road, Dalkeith

The gate-lodge at Glenarch, located on Gilmerton Road in Dalkeith, dates from the mid to late 19th century and serves as the entrance to Glenarch House. The lodge is a single-storey structure with three bays, featuring a rendered and lined exterior. It has canopies supported by consoles over the door and windows, and decorative cast-iron window boxes adorn the windows.

On the west elevation, the entrance door is centrally positioned and flanked by windows. The south elevation, facing Gilmerton Road, includes a window to the left of center, with sash and case windows displaying a four-pane glazing pattern. The roof is covered with grey slates and has a piend shape, with wallhead stacks featuring brick cornices on both the north and south sides, topped with polygonal cans.

The gatepiers consist of three ashlar structures that are corniced, chamfered, and panelled, showcasing Gothic detailing, although the finials were removed in 1991. The entrance is completed with cast-iron gates for both the driveway and pedestrians.
