Description
Barn, including Carpenter's Shop at Llanerchaeron
Large barn of rubble construction with hipped slate roof and projecting eaves. Long front (W) and rear, each with two tall camber-headed doors with stone voussoirs and paired planked doors. Short loop towards each end. Rear with two rows of dove-holes under eaves, wooden brackets between with some timber ledges. Lean-to cart shed towards left end of rear. Two loops to S, now within added buildings.
Attached to N is a lofted two-bay Carpenter's Shop of rubble construction with slate roof. Front (W) with 12-pane window to left, boarded door to right: cambered stone voussoired heads. Similar window to gable, lighting loft: also to rear. Attached at N end is small two-bay building of similar materials, brick chimney to left end. Front with boarded door to right and 9-pane window to left, rising to eaves. Attached to S of barn, abutting garden wall is later single storey building, E side with D.W.D.D and W side with two doors: timber lintels.
Later roof structure to barn of 9 bays with tie-beam trusses and angled struts: paired purlins. Stone dividing wall in barn, each side with elm boarded threshing floor. Loft in Carpenter's Shop on rough beams. Three bay scarfed-cruck roof, pegged joints and collars.
