Description

The Carpenter's Shop at Llanerchaeron is a large barn constructed of rubble with a hipped slate roof and projecting eaves. It features a long front and rear, each side having two tall camber-headed doors with stone voussoirs and paired planked doors. There are short loops towards each end, and the rear has two rows of dove-holes under the eaves, with wooden brackets and some timber ledges. A lean-to cart shed is located towards the left end of the rear, and there are two loops to the south, now incorporated within added buildings.

Attached to the north side is a lofted two-bay Carpenter's Shop, also made of rubble with a slate roof. The front has a 12-pane window on the left and a boarded door on the right, both with cambered stone voussoired heads. There is a similar window in the gable, which lights the loft, and another at the rear. At the north end, there is a small two-bay building made of similar materials, featuring a brick chimney on the left end. The front has a boarded door on the right and a 9-pane window on the left, which rises to the eaves. To the south of the barn, abutting the garden wall, is a later single-storey building, with a door and window on the east side and two doors on the west side, both with timber lintels.

The barn has a later roof structure consisting of 9 bays with tie-beam trusses and angled struts, along with paired purlins. Inside the barn, there is a stone dividing wall, with each side featuring an elm boarded threshing floor. The Carpenter's Shop has a loft supported by rough beams and a three-bay scarfed-cruck roof with pegged joints and collars.
