Description
The rectangular walled gardens and attached outbuildings at Llanerchaeron date back to the 19th century and cover an area of approximately 1.5 acres, measuring about 150 meters in length and 45 meters in width. The first garden to the west features high brick walls topped with clay tile coping. The second garden has a rubble stone outer facing with brick on the inside, and its southern wall is entirely constructed of rubble. A brick dividing wall separates the two gardens.
The first garden includes a cambered doorway located towards the left end of the western side, with a similar door aligned with the dividing wall. The outer garden has a cambered doorway on the northern wall, which features a six-panel door, and another door on the southern wall. On the northern wall of the first garden, there is an additional doorway and the bases of various demolished greenhouses, with one concrete greenhouse still standing. Among these remains are brick-lined underground heating flues.
Along the outside of the northern wall, there are several outbuildings. To the right of the main door within the rear courtyard of the coach house, there is a late 19th-century six-bay lean-to store with a slate roof supported by timber posts. To the left of the door is a mid-19th-century lean-to range that is not shown on the 1844 Tithe map and is partly incorporated into the 1863 farmhouse. This range features three doors on the right side, all except the middle one are blocked, with inserted windows, including a two-light twelve-pane window to the left with timber lintels. There are also two brick chimney stacks on the garden wall, one of which is positioned towards the farmhouse.
To the west of the farmhouse, against the northern wall of the second garden, there is a range of mid to late 19th-century lean-to rubble buildings with slate roofs. This includes four open sheds divided by rubble walls, each supported by a single wooden post, and stone enclosing walls that create small front areas. At the western end, there is an enclosed section with a slate roof that extends over a former area, containing various small rooms within. Additionally, there is a small rubble pigsty located at the angle with the barn range.
