Description

The N Range of attached outbuildings at Llanerchaeron, previously listed as sited at Llanaeron House, consists of a rubble stone farmhouse with slate hipped roofs and brick chimney stacks at both ends, as well as a stack on the north slope of the rear wing. This L-plan building is two storeys high with a three-bay east front. It features twelve-pane hornless sash windows with cambered brick heads and slate sills. The central door has six panels and a four-pane overlight, with a similar head. The rear northwest wing has a hip roof and two windows on the west end wall, along with a recessed porch to the right. The south side of the wing appears to be built up from the old north wall of the outbuildings against a walled garden. The south end wall of the main house is built above the garden wall in red brick and has a sash window matching those on the front.

To the north is an earlier seven-bay cow-house, which has a continuous single bay stable added at the north end, all under a hipped slate roof that slopes low over a north lean-to and a full-length rear outshut. The cow-house has seven doorways with cambered stone voussoired heads, most of which have been replaced by windows, except for the second and fourth from the left, which retain boarded doors and overlights. There are two small attic windows towards the right end. The stable features a boarded door with a similar head and a loft door leading to a dormer-gable. There are later lean-tos to the north and rear, the latter containing twelve openings, mostly small windows with timber lintels, and three doors, one of which is paired and planked, with vent-slits.

In front of the cow-house is a pitched stone pavement. Inside the house, there is a dog-leg stair at the south end, a cross-passage, and a slate flagged room at the front. The cow-house has a nine-bay collar-truss roof with rough trusses and collars, the former pegged to wall-posts that rest on the cross-beams. The rear west wall has five doors, most of which are blocked. The interior of the stable features a pitched stone floor and three bay stalls on each side with timber divisions, consisting of vertical posts with shaped wooden crooks. The rear of each stall is boarded to include a flush timber feeding manger, which is supplied from the loft above.
