Description

The barn at Llanerchaeron, which includes a Carpenter's Shop, is a large structure built from rubble with a hipped slate roof and projecting eaves. The long front and rear of the barn each feature two tall camber-headed doors made of stone voussoirs and paired planked doors. There are short loops towards each end, and the rear has two rows of dove-holes under the eaves, with wooden brackets in between and some timber ledges. A lean-to cart shed is located towards the left end of the rear, and there are two loops on the south side, now incorporated into added buildings.

Attached to the north side of the barn is a lofted two-bay Carpenter's Shop, also constructed of rubble with a slate roof. The front has a 12-pane window to the left and a boarded door to the right, both with cambered stone voussoired heads. A similar window is found on the gable, which lights the loft, as well as on the rear. At the north end of the Carpenter's Shop is a small two-bay building made of similar materials, featuring a brick chimney on the left end. The front has a boarded door to the right and a 9-pane window to the left that rises to the eaves. Attached to the south of the barn, abutting the garden wall, is a later single-storey building with a door and window on the east side and two doors on the west side, all with timber lintels.

The barn has a later roof structure consisting of nine bays with tie-beam trusses and angled struts, along with paired purlins. Inside, there is a stone dividing wall, with each side featuring an elm boarded threshing floor. The Carpenter's Shop has a loft supported by rough beams, and the roof consists of three bays with scarfed cruck construction, pegged joints, and collars.
