Description

The former Calvanistic Methodist Chapel at Pensarn, built in 1795 and altered in 1833, features rubble walls that were once plastered and a slate roof with projecting eaves and bargeboards. The front has four bays with two large round-arched windows in the center, each containing 9/6-pane sashes with radiating upper glazing. Smaller upper windows in the outer bays have similar glazing. The windows have slate sills and are framed by stone voussoirs. The front also includes matching outer doors, which are paired 2-panel doors topped with 6-pane fanlights that have radiating glazing bars, also supported by stone voussoirs. A slate plaque at the upper center reads: "Pensarn. A Adeiladwyd yn y Flwyddyn 1795. Aca adeiladwyd yn y Flwyddyn 1833." Additionally, there is a slate memorial attached to the front beneath the right-hand long window, commemorating David Davies of Pen'ralltgoch (1765-1845), the first Deacon at Pensarn.

The right gable end facing the road features a 12-pane hornless sash window on each storey, both with cambered stone voussoired heads. A similar window is located on the first floor of the left end. The rear of the chapel has two similar windows on each storey, all with slate sills.

In front, there is a small courtyard enclosed by a rubble wall along the road, which has paired late 19th-century cast iron gates with scrolled finials and curved bracing, supported by square dressed stone piers. The interior fittings have been dismantled, but it retains a flat plaster ceiling with two small plaster roundels.
