Description
The County Court Office and Ministry of Agriculture Fisheries & Food is a broad Georgian building dating from the 18th century. It features a three-storey, three-window facade made of stucco, with an eaves band and pilaster strips on the first and second floors, above a cill band and a rusticated ground floor. The building has a slate roof with bracket eaves and red brick chimney stacks. The first and second floors have twelve and six-pane sash windows, while the ground floor has tripartite small pane sashes flanking a central doorcase. This doorcase is adorned with fluted Ionic pilasters, a two-order arched entrance, recessed panelled reveals, and double doors topped with a traceried fanlight.
Inside, the entrance hall retains an acanthus cornice and a segmental arch with a panelled soffit supported by fluted piers, which leads to an openwell staircase. There is also an unusual parabolic arch with a panelled soffit, decorative paterae, and Egyptian imposts that branches off from the hall.
