Description
The former Coach House and Stables to Plas Machynlleth, also known as Plas Kennels, is a Grade II listed building. It is constructed from rubble and features a single storey with an attic, topped by a slate roof that has stone gable parapets, simple kneelers, and a stone eaves band. At the center, there is an octagonal bellcote with a swept roof and louvred pointed openings.
The northwest side facing the road displays five gables, each with a parapet, with the center gables being broader and featuring a chimney stack. Each gable has square-headed openings, including two with loft doors and two with modern windows. The southwest gable end is slate hung, while the northeast gable end is rubble with a mullioned and transomed window. A cross range to the left forms one side of the courtyard and includes a chimney stack and gable parapet at the end, along with an arched passage entry to the courtyard beside the gable.
On the southeast side, there is a U-shaped courtyard with coursed rubble elevations and chamfered corners. The central bay of the main range is advanced and features a clock face above a three-light attic window and a broad stilted pointed arch below, made of voussoirs. This arch opens onto a recess with doorways on either side and a small pane window in the center, with stables located to the right. The flanking bays have small attic gables and two-light windows. The southwest cross range includes paired pointed arch coach entries with double boarded doors, and there is a square-headed doorway near the angle. The northeast cross range has a cross frame window.
