Description

Firbank House and Hill Cottage are former coach house and stables, dating to around 1870, originally serving Charles Hill Court. The building is constructed of local ironstone rubble with buff-coloured brick dressings; the roofs are slate, with some scalloped bands and "fleur-de-lys" ridge cresting.

The main block is a one-storey building with an attic to the rear, featuring a central wooden ridge cupola under a turret roof. The cupola is octagonal, with open sides set upon a square plinth, and incorporates shouldered arches to each face. A regular front elevation runs at a right angle to the land, with a central gable featuring decorative pierced bargeboards. Smaller gables with similar bargeboards are situated on either side. A 20th-century cambered head casement window occupies the position of the original left-hand door, retaining its brick surround on the first floor, and there are casement windows with decorative elongated lozenge glazing tracery on either side. Five windows are present on the ground floor. A 20th-century hip-roofed square bay is located to the left of centre on the ground floor, as is a colourwashed brick extension to the left.

The entrance front, facing the lane, is a one-storey and attic building under gabled dormers with pierced bargeboards. Rendered end stacks are present. Casement windows with lozenge-shaped glazing bars are found on the first floor, while two 20th-century cambered head windows are on the ground floor. A central gabled porch with pierced bargeboards fronts a ribbed door set within a pointed arched brick quoined surround.
