Description

Park Farmhouse is a Grade II listed building, likely originally constructed in the 17th century as a two-unit, one-and-a-half-storey timber-framed house. It was later extended and partially clad in brick, probably during the 18th century, and raised in height, likely in the early 20th century. The timber framing of the front wall appears to have been renewed, possibly in the late 19th century.

The main elevation features two units of timber framing, extended by one bay to the left in brick. It has a slate roof with gable end and rear wall stacks. The front wall displays regular square panelled framing, which may represent a reconstruction of the original, while the original framing is exposed in the gable end and to the rear. The gable includes a queen strut and collar roof truss that does not appear to integrate with the front wall framing. The rear wall also has square panelled framing with some arch bracing along the original wall-plate line. The upper storey, which is clearly a later addition, is also timber framed.

The entrance is located towards the centre of the timber-framed section and is sheltered by a battened timber porch, flanked by projecting two-light small-paned casement windows. To the left, there is a single ring cambered head to a two-light casement window in the brick bay. The brick section was raised in height to form a single roofline with the raised timber-framed section, and there are three two-light casement windows in the upper storey.

Park Farmhouse is of special interest as a 17th-century farmhouse that clearly shows evidence of successive alterations within the vernacular tradition.
