Description

Golfa Hall is largely a building of the 1830s, though it likely incorporates an earlier structure on the same site. Originally a farmhouse, it is now a hotel.

The house is constructed of painted brick with slate roofs, arranged in an "L" shape. The main range extends beyond an advanced wing, with a possible incorporation of an older building serving as a service range. The main entrance is located at the angle where the advanced wing meets the main range. It features arched, partially glazed double doors set within a porch with an entablature supported by a column and a pilaster against the wing's wall. To the right of the entrance are paired 12-pane sash windows with flat arched brick heads, and above them are 3x6-pane sashes. A 12-pane sash window with a single ring cambered head is found on the inner elevation of the wing, which also has a canted bay window with small-paned sashes in its gable end and a tripartite sash window above. To the left of the wing, the former service range now provides access to the main entrance, incorporating a window that has been reduced in height; the original flat arched brick heads remain visible. First floor windows are 6-pane sashes. The left-hand bay of this range represents a separate construction phase and may be the oldest part of the building, showing some rubble walling in its gable return.

Internally, some decorative features from the 1830s remain, including plaster cornices and reeded window surrounds, though the layout has undergone extensive alterations.

The building retains the external character of an early 19th century farmhouse of some distinction.
