Description
The Second Lodge to Llanerchydol Hall is a simple picturesque lodge built around 1830. It is depicted on the Tithe Map of 1840 but has a different style from the Hall and the lower lodge, indicating it was constructed during a separate phase.
The lodge is made of brick and features a plain tiled roof with an axial stack positioned towards the rear. It is single-storeyed with an attic, comprising a main range and a rear wing. The main range has a central gabled porch that is advanced, featuring a chamfered four-centred archway that mirrors the arch of the panelled inner door. This porch is flanked by a veranda, with the main roof sloping down and supported by octagonal timber posts that hold arched braces with pendants. The same detailing is found on the side of the rear wing. Within the veranda, there are narrow chamfered arched windows. The gable end has plain outer pilasters and a single two-light window with a terracotta drop-ended hood mould on each floor, while the shallow rear wing has two-light metal casement windows on each floor.
This small 19th-century lodge retains its original picturesque character largely intact and is an important feature within the park at Llanerchydol.
