Description
Nant-y-caws is a pair of estate cottages associated with the Powis Estate. The layout and detailing indicate an early 19th century date, but the constructional details, including some structural timberwork, suggest that the cottages may have origins from the 18th century.
The exterior features a symmetrical design with timber framing and brick infill, where the brickwork is painted to resemble timber framing and includes quatrefoil decoration. The side elevations are made of rubble. The cottages are two storeys high with a two-window central range that sits between slightly advanced outer gabled wings. Each wing has doorways located in the re-entrant angle.
These cottages are listed as a pair of Picturesque estate cottages, which may also have earlier vernacular origins.
