Description
The Square is a Grade II listed building featuring a combination of stone and timber framing with colourwashed infill panels and part uncoursed stone. It has a random slate roof. The timber framing is close studded, with corner braces and decorative angled bracing in the front gable. The entrance consists of a timber boarded door with a small light, and there are timber three-light casement windows. The stone section on the right includes camber headed three-light transomed casements.
Inside the wing, there is a front parlour that contains a large brick stack with four flues, likely from the 18th century. It features a chamfered cross beam with check and scoop stops. The rear wall is also framed, and the rear chamber has been extended in the 20th century, now lacking historic features. The main posts are not jowled. The roof has a single tier of purlins and principal rafters that cross at the apex with a tenoned ridge piece. The stone building also has a single tier of purlins made from reused timber that is morticed for windbraces.
