Description
The churchyard wall at the Church of St Aelhaiarn is a medieval structure that has been largely rebuilt. It is made of rubble stonework and stands approximately 1.5 meters high. There are double iron gates located to the south and in the northwest corner, as well as a single iron gate at the southwest corner. These gates date from the 19th century and feature trefoil-headed panelled stanchions with offsetting caps. They have double bottom and middle bars adorned with roses, an arched top flat that supports the four-way spear-headed rails, and dog rails.
Inside the churchyard, there are several notable slate headstones, particularly valued for their lettering quality. Among these are the Teece headstone from 1839, located against the south churchyard wall, the Jones/Richards headstone from 1832/41 near the southwest gate, and the Humphries headstone from 1863, positioned at the southwest corner of the graveyard.
