Description
Ty'n y Cwm is a house and byre oriented east-west, constructed with random masonry beneath a slate roof featuring a red brick axial stack. The building is two storeys high and has a three-window range. There are two doorways with rounded voussoired heads, positioned off centre, each containing wood planked doors. The first doorway, likely the main entrance, is located to the east of the central window, while the second, which appears to have been added later, is immediately to the right of the west window. This second doorway has a stone arch supported by the door frame and is almost opposite the stack, possibly serving as a 'rear' door leading into the kitchen area.
The ground floor windows are six-pane wooden casements, also under rounded voussoired heads, while the upper storey features four-pane wooden casements located just below the eaves. The rear elevation includes three small lights: two on the upper storey at the east and west ends, and one on the ground floor. There is a stone projection at the rear wall, aligned with the chimney stack, which likely serves as a bake oven and is capped with clay tiles.
To the west gable end of the house, there is a partially collapsed lean-to with a wood planked door. The eastern side contains the byre, which has masonry on the lower storey and timber work above, including partial timber cladding. The byre features three wood planked doors, stable doors, and a hatch. The interior was not accessible during the inspection in August 1996.
