Description

The courtyard ranges of farm buildings to the north of Siluria include a barn dating from the 17th century or earlier. This barn has five bays and is timber-framed, featuring a significant amount of re-used timber and repair work, with some walls rebuilt in rubble and weatherboarding. It has an iron roof and retains original framing in panels with jowled storey posts. The barn boasts very tall tie-beam trusses with raking braces and long scratched carpenters' marks. An additional two-bay section was added to the north-east in the early 19th century, likely at the same time as the house and stable range, serving as a combination barn and shearing shed. Its high rubble base walls are complemented by upper sections of stud and weatherboarding, and it has a double door entry bay. The rear elevation features a small cambered raised doorway and ventilation slits.

The open-fronted cowsheds, which may date from the late 17th century, are single-storey and arranged in an L-plan. They have rubble rear walls and an iron roof, comprising a total of fourteen bays articulated by trusses jointed to large jowled chamfered posts that also support a continuous wallplate. The end trusses include queen posts, while the intermediary trusses feature tie beams and raking braces, along with notched carpenters' marks and trenched overlapping purlins.

The pony stable and trap house, dating from the late 19th century, fill the space between the barn and cowsheds and are constructed from rockfaced rubble blocks with a slate roof.

Finally, the cartshed and granary, located immediately to the north of the courtyard ranges, were built in the 19th century. This structure consists of three bays, is open-fronted with rubble end walls, features a weather-boarded loft, and has a slate roof.
